Alpaca Consultancy

Alpacas of Wessex provides a whole range of consultancy services for their clients:

  • Advice in designing a property set up for farming alpacas efficiently.  Most alpaca breeders keep their alpacas with minimum help from extra labour therefore it is vital to have a farm set up which is designed to make life easy for one person to carry out most operations on their own. With a proper design prior to laying out fencing or putting up field shelters much time and effort can be saved for the future.
  • Laying out a business plan for breeding and marketing alpacas. There is no such thing as a standard business plan for farming alpacas. Each alpaca owner has different aspirations and goals, both personal and financial. But in most cases it is important to have a sound business plan from which to work over the early years in order to plan and track the income and expenditure as well as the capital growth of the enterprise.
  • Acting as an ‘expert witness’ in planning appeals. Many alpaca breeders decide that they want to have a property from which they can look after their animals. Where there is no existing building on site they will need to apply for planning permission based on their alpaca business. As alpaca farming is relatively new to Britain there are few professional planning consultants who will have much knowledge about the business; we can support those planning consultants in putting forward a sound case at any stage of the planning process.
  • Valuation. There are many different situations in which an alpaca breeder may require a valuation of their stock. We have considerable knowledge of the market and pride ourselves on marketing stock at realistic prices. Our expertise in valuation has been accepted by accountants and lawyers in various scenarios.
  • Selection of stock. Purchasing stock is always a difficult decision process. For the newcomer there are many pitfalls in purchasing an animal about which they know very little. Even for the experienced breeder it is not easy, particularly when there is only limited time in which to view the stock available. We can provide that support and guidance in a client’s selection and ensure that the price of the animals is not over valued.
  • Selection of Stock from Overseas. We have selected stock for our clients from many different countries: from Australia, from Chile and from Peru. Not only do we have the expertise in selecting good quality stock but also we have contacts in all these countries where there is such a wide selection of good quality animals to select from, providing you know where to look.
  • Other Areas of Consultancy. There are many years of experience of alpaca farming available in Alpacas of Wessex. There are many areas in which you may need advice or support in progressing you own alpaca business. Whether you are an existing client or a new one; if you have a problem that requires professional advice or consultation we can provide it.
